Cygnet’s 40th Anniversary Season

Cygnet Theatre was founded 40 years ago by Monica Shallis and Mary G Evans. Since then, we have been training the next generation of professional actors with our highly unique brand of drama school. Cygnet believes in a training centred on learning on the stage, not in the classroom. We regularly host visiting theatre productions, concerts, dance and workshops in our lovely theatre just above Exeter quayside, as well as producing our own performances and touring shows each year. 2021 is our 40th anniversary, and we were planning a special season of work to celebrate. However, due to the ongoing pandemic we are now postponing our celebrations to 2022. Cygnet will be hosting shows in venues across Exeter and Devon from May to July. We have a huge array of events to inspire all audiences, from family shows to Q&A platforms with special guests.

Cygnet Theatre will be celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2022 with a special season of work running from May to July.

We are seeking professional companies who may like to take part in the season by bringing a show, concert, or event. The piece of work or the group would need to have some connection with Cygnet, but that can be as creative a connection as you like! We already have several shows, workshops and Q&A sessions lined up with special guests. We are planning to use multiple spaces in the city as well as our building itself.

We are also inviting submissions from local community groups who would like to take part in our specially dedicated community and charity days during the season. We would love for as many groups to be involved as possible, so please get in touch with any thoughts or ideas.

Cygnet is also looking for any technical/backstage/marketing volunteers who may be able to support our season.

To get involved please contact or call 01392 277189 and ask to speak to Louisa.

We’re looking for outdoor spaces

To allow for the possibility of the current pandemic still having an impact on indoor performances, we are planning for much of the season to be in green spaces. We would like to hear from anyone who may know of an outdoor space that could be open to both large and intimate performances.

Cygnet is working with local businesses to promote and support the season of work, which will celebrate local professional artists, performers and community groups.

If we shadows have offended,

Think but this, and all is mended:

That you have but slumbered here

While these visions did appear.

And this weak and idle theme,

No more yielding but a dream,

Gentles, do not reprehend.

Puck, A Midsummer Night’s Dream
